Updates from the Committee on the Stewardship of Creation
The Committee on the Stewardship of Creation is
currently reaching out to all churches in the Diocese in an
effort to get them involved in energy conservation and
energy audit projects using a staged, step-by-step process..
The Committee has asked each church to identify a
stewardship partner to be the main point of contact.
Stewardship partners and rectors can work with the Committee
on the Stewardship of Creation to conduct their own energy
analyses with the help of the Committee's volunteer experts.
The Committee can help guide your church through the
processes of beginning energy conservation measures,
auditing and managing retrofit work.
New in 2009, churches that show an energy savings throughout
the year are eligible for the Committee's Lee-Atkinson
Energy Saver Award, which will be presented at Council in
2010. Criteria for this award will be published online later
this year. It is not too late to become a contender for this
year's award. Contact the Committee chair for more
information.
In addition to the implementation of the energy auditing and
conservation program, the Committee's Web site offers a
wealth of resources and information on eco-theology, green
building technologies and worship resources. The latest
resource is a booklet of energy-saving tips for your church.
You can access all of this information online.
To learn how to participate more fully in the Committee on
Stewardship of Creation's energy conservation efforts,
please contact committee chair Rocco Tricarico atNorNeck@hughes.net.
The Committee is planning an event, tentatively scheduled
for May 2009, that will include presentations on the
stewardship of creation, water conservation and energy
consciousness. Stay tuned to the e-Communiqué for more
information on this upcoming event.
